  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large cup
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tbsp Christmas sprinkles {optional but recommended}
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract for extra flavor
  • For Food Coloring:
  • 1 Red Gel Food Color
  • 1 Green Gel Food Color

Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 Sharp Knife
  • 1 Parchment paper
  • 1 Electric Hand Mixer
  • 1 Set of Measuring Cups
  • 1 Cling Wrap Sheet
  • 1 Baking tray

Method

  1. Take a large bowl and add some creamy butter and sugar mix until light and fluffy. The first step can give the air to the dough and keeps the cookies soft.
  2. Next, add the egg and vanilla extract to mixture and mix it until smooth.
  3. Take a separate bowl, add flour, baking powder and salt. next add this mixture slowly to the butter mixture until a soft dough forms.
  4. Now, divide the dough into the two equal portions, and for one add the red food color and for the another one just add the green food color. Mix each dough properly until the color is bright and evenly mixed.
  5. Now rolling pin comes to the part, by using this roll both colored dough portions into two equal sized rectangles.
  6. Carefully place the red dough layer slowly on the top of the green dough layer. Press them lightly until they stick together.
  7. Roll the layers up tightly to create a log. This can helps you get the classic swirl pattern.
  8. Now the easy part, wrap the cookie log with cling film and chill that into the refrigerator for about 15-20 minutes. This process can gives the slicing easier and keeps the shape perfect.
  9. After chilling slice the doughs into 1/4 inch thick round pieces. Like this each slice can have a beautiful red and green spiral.
  10. So next, place all the slices on a baking tray which already lined with parchment paper. Bake at 180°C / 350°F for 10–12 minutes please do not overbake it. The cookies should look soft in the middle and lightly firm at the edges.
  11. After baking let it cool for 5 minutes. Because this swirl pattern becomes sharp once hey cool completely or at least for 75-80%.
  12. For extra festive look roll the cookies edges.
